The Alliance Française holds cultural events throughout the year, large and small. They are mostly in English and are open to the public. Come join us!

Events Policy

The member discount is applicable for one ticket per member.
Guests must pay the non-member price. Please note that a reservation is only confirmed upon receiving payment.

If tickets are available, the Alliance can accept payment at the door by credit card, check, or cash.


  • Registration for Alliance Française events can be made in person at our office, over the phone, by mail, or through the web site.
  • Please make all checks payable to: Alliance Française de Portland. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Cancellations & Refunds:

  • Refunds will be automatically issued if the Alliance cancels an event.
  • If you need to cancel your registration for an event, you must do so at least 24 hours prior to the start of the program, and you will be fully credited toward a future event.
  • Refunds must be requested in writing no less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled event and will incur a 4% credit card processing fee.

Mingle with teachers, fellow students and friends at the Alliance Française’s Fall Open House on Thursday, August 29, from 6:15 - 8 pm. Fall Term runs September 9 - November 16, and the Alliance offers classes at all levels.

Fall term includes the core classes in the Edito series, starting with Beginning French 101 at the A1 level through Advanced Edito at the C1 level. Most classes run for 10 weeks and meet once a week. Private tutoring and convo sessions are also available.

Le goût du vin - A delicious journey through the wine regions of France

Explore and taste French wines through the lens of history and culture. Learn to read and demystify French wine labels as you discover new favorites and find hidden treasures. Wine & refreshments paired to the region will be served at each session. The seminar with be taught in English, with appropriate French vocabulary. The two five-week seminars may be taken in sequence or stand-alone. There will be an additional materials fee to cover wine & food pairings enjoyed in each class.

Maxine Borcherding, Chef, Sommelier, and lover of wine and fine food, will guide you through an in-depth look at the wine regions of France. Maxine’s professional certifications include Sommelier (International Sommelier Guild), French Wine Scholar (French Wine Academy), Spanish Wine Educator (Wine Academy of Spain), and Wine Location Specialist (Center for Wine Origins). She recently retired from 16 years as Lead Chef Instructor at the Oregon Culinary Institute.

Eric John Kaiser Salutes Georges Brassens

French singer songwriter Eric John Kaiser salutes Georges Brassens' life and legacy with songs and stories about his life and his career. The presentation will be primarily in French, with some English. Come sing with Eric!

Georges Brassens was one of the major and most iconic singer-songwriters of the 20th century in France. Born in the South of the country, he was deported in a work camp in Nazi Germany before escaping and hiding in Paris until the end of the war. He then wanted to become a journalist, but fate and his unique style of songwriting changed the course of his life. His work is still popular and, although he passed away many years ago, he continues to influence many French artists to this day, even including hip hop singers. His unique style and his songs can be satirical, kind, funny or political. Brassens has left an enduring influence on French music and culture.

Known as The French Troubadour, Parisian-born Eric John Kaiser is a singer-songwriter reimagining Americana music through a French lens. French Winemaker Nicolas Quillé on Chenin Blanc and Malbec in the Old and New Worlds

Frenchman Nicolas Quillé, Head Winemaker and Operations Officer for the Crimson Wine Group, will hold a wine appreciation/ education seminar with a curated tasting of Chenin Blanc and Malbec on October 5.

The French have a saying: “No one is a prophet in his own country.” Building upon that old proverb, Nicolas will lead the group through a fun tasting comparing two classic French grape varieties that have succeeded better outside their home country. Chenin Blanc from South Africa and Malbec from Argentina will be paired side by side with their French nemesis from the Loire and from Cahors. Great stories and great wines on the program.

Originally from Lyon, Nicolas comes from a family that has been in the wine business for three generations. He has a Master’s degree in Winemaking from the University of Dijon, Burgundy, and a Master in Wine Business from the University of Reims, Champagne.

After the tasting, guests will be invited to mingle, enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and bid in a silent auction.

Street parking on SW 20th St. facing the Kamm House is limited. Free parking is available in Lot A at SW 18th and SW Columbia. Please obtain a parking pass from the office.

After 6 pm weekdays, students may park in the Willamette Dental lot at SW 20th and SW Jefferson as available.
