World Peace Through Trade: The Role of International Organizations Today
Tuesday, February 12, 2019 4:30pm - 6pm
World Peace Through Trade: The Role of International Organizations Today

Join us for this intriguing discussion in French live-streaming from the Alliance Française de Chicago on February 12 at 4:30 pm. There are no subtitles.

“When goods don't cross borders, soldiers will,” said 19th century French economist Frédéric Bastiat. The World Trade Organization in Geneva is one some thirty other organizations, such as NATO or UNICEF, created after World War II to help prevent such devastating world conflict from ever happening again.

But the relevance of these organizations is being called into question by a US administration keen to pull away from many world accords. International trade has become into a hot political topic at the center of the news cycle, with the potential to impact not only the stock market but the lives of people across the globe.

Professor Gabrielle Marceau, Senior Counselor in the Legal Affairs Division of the World Trade Organization, will survey the state of multilateral trade relationships. Professeur Marceau will be in conversation with John Cruickshank, Consul general of Canada in Chicago.

Free for Alliance members. $8 for non-members. Limited seating is available; please register in advance.

There, we enjoyed bringing European delights to the plates of all who stopped by – friends, family, and neighbors."
