Khadija Khalife

Khadija has dedicated her professional life to the study and instruction of French literature and language. She holds a Ph.D, M.A. and B.A. in French Literature from Saint-Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon, as well as a M.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from Portland State University. She is a published author and book reviewer, and since 2013, an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Portland. Khadija also is a Review Editor of Work Creatives for The French Review.

Communication: Comparisons; speaking of the past & future; quantity; expressing agreement/disagreement; understanding and describing the weather; describing a person; expressing your wishes; writing a letter and a story.

Grammar: Interrogation with inversion; reflexive verbs; imparfait; simple future; present subjunctive; negations with "ne...plus, ne...que" and "ne...jamais"; “sortir, partir, quitter, s’en aller”; “dans” vs. “en” in time expressions; sequence words: “d'abord, puis, enfin”; “en” to express quantity; pronoun placement with the imperative.

Phonetics: Nasal and non-nasal vowel pairs: [a] – [ɑ̃], [o] – [ɔ̃], [ɛ] – [ɛ̃]

Description: Ce cours est un survol d’œuvres littéraires et artistiques qui ont marqué le 20e siècle et qui diffusent une vision d'un monde déstabilisé mais qui aspire à la libération et au renouveau. Parmi les auteurs abordés figurent Apollinaire, Gide, Proust, Breton, Eluard, Ionesco, Sartre, Camus, Prévert et Ponge. Côté artistique, seront étudiés la peinture (courants impressionniste, cubiste, surréaliste) ainsi que le cinéma, la musique, la danse et l'architecture.

Street parking on SW 20th St. facing the Kamm House is limited. Free parking is available in Lot A at SW 18th and SW Columbia. Please obtain a parking pass from the office.

After 6 pm weekdays, students may park in the Willamette Dental lot at SW 20th and SW Jefferson as available.
