Emmanuel Laurin


Emmanuel hails from Rochefort, Charente Maritime, on the west coast of France. He holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, and a B.A. in History and English language from the University of Poitiers. He lectured at the University of Créteil and Paris 8 before moving to Oregon where he currently teaches all levels of French.

De la période gallo-romaine au XXe siècle, nous présenterons les différents visages de la capitale française au gré de monuments, tels que les Arènes de Lutèce, la Tour St Jacques ou la butte Montmartre, qui incarnent ces diverses périodes du développement de Paris.

These intermediate workshops in French teach you simple and useful French expressions to use while traveling in a francophone country.

Workshop Part 2: For Levels A2/B1

Learn essential vocabulary and phrases, then practice with dialogues and listening exercises that will focus on these situations and more:

Arrival: At the airport; transferring to your ground destination. Taxis, trains, metro.

Getting Around: Taking public transportation.

Lodging: Checking in; hotel situations.

Dining: Menu reading, ordering, discussing food and drinks.

Shopping: Asking for help in a variety of stores; shopping etiquette; at the farmer’s market; flea market.

Emergency: Talking to a doctor or a pharmacist; buying items at the pharmacy.


Finding Your Way:  Asking for, understanding and (oui!) giving directions.

The workshops are standalone — you do not need to take Part 1 before Part 2.

Street parking on SW 20th St. facing the Kamm House is limited. Free parking is available in Lot A at SW 18th and SW Columbia. Please obtain a parking pass from the office.

After 6 pm weekdays, students may park in the Willamette Dental lot at SW 20th and SW Jefferson as available.
