About The Film

Set against the backdrop of modern-day Montreal, Sur la Terre Comme au Ciel (On Earth as in heaven) follows Clara Gagnon, a young woman raised in an isolated Christian community. Her world is shattered when her sister, Sarah, mysteriously disappears. Believing she knows where Sarah is hiding, Clara runs away, determined to bring her sister back to the "right path."

Clara finds herself in the unfamiliar home of her aunt Louise, where she is introduced to the vibrant, fast-paced world of Montreal. As Clara navigates this new life, she confronts the deep questions of freedom, doubt, and self-acceptance.

Sur la Terre Comme au Ciel offers a unique opportunity to discover both contemporary Montreal and its historical past. As Clara steps into the city's modern-day life, the film beautifully weaves together the vibrant energy of today with glimpses into Quebec's evolving cultural landscape.

Critics have praised the film for its sensitive portrayal of adolescence and the clash between faith and freedom. The director, Nathalie Saint-Pierre, has been commended for capturing the essence of adolescence, including its confusion, rebellion, and brief moments of clarity.
