Bienvenue! Welcome!

Welcome to the Alliance Française de Portland

The Alliance Française de Portland is a nonprofit cultural and educational organization with annual enrollment of 900 students annually in French classes in the historic Kamm House in downtown Portland, as well as social and cultural events in the Portland metropolitan area. The group is a chapter of the Paris-based Fondation Alliance Française which is the world's largest network of French language and cultural centers, with over a thousand chapters in 135 countries. Scenes below are from the current term; photos by Katharine Kimball.

The Alliance Française de Portland is the 15th largest of 110 chartered Alliances in the U.S.
The Portland chapter also hosts cultural events, including one of the largest Bastille celebrations on the West Coast (8,000 visitors)
and one of the best-known Beaujolais Nouveau fêtes (500 guests).

Learning French at the Alliance: Record Enrollment, New Textbooks

Portlanders are enrolling for French classes in record numbers -- more than 700 enrollments thus far at the Alliance/Portland in 2010. The spring term introduced our new Latitudes and Edito textbooks -- we are among the first in the U.S. to use these exciting new releases. The summer term is currently in progress; the fall term starts in September. Whether you are preparing for an upcoming trip to France or simply reigniting your love of the language, the Alliance of Portland has classes for all levels and interests. Our programs feature native-fluent, experienced teachers who create a lively and highly interactive dynamic in small group classes (5-10 students). Terms are typically 10 weeks (though some are 5 weeks) and include daytime, evening, weekend classes; shorter workshops and private lessons are also offered year-round. Visit the Classes page for more info on all offerings.
